Leadership

Thad L. Key

Converted to Christ at the age of ten, Thad Key at the young age of fourteen felt the call of God upon his life to be a minister of the Gospel, a preacher and teacher of God’s Word. Fascinated with theology, he began to place great emphasis upon his personal development in the things of God’s Word through intense study of Scripture and systematic theology.

Soon thereafter, he began preaching and teaching in churches, Bible studies and student ministry events in and around Alabama. Then, the week before he turned seventeen, he was called to be the Minister to Students at Boldo Baptist Church, a local church near his hometown. Soon thereafter, he left for the University of Mobile to work on his Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Religion (Christian Studies) and a minor in History. For the next two years, he preached at churches throughout Alabama. After serving as the Interim Minister to Students at First Baptist Church of Fairhope for eight months, he became the Assistant to the Senior Pastor at Dauphin Way Baptist Church in Mobile, Alabama. This was a very formative time in his life as he worked alongside Dr. Steve Lawson, a great expositor of God’s Word and a nationally published author. While at the University of Mobile, Thad received the R.G. Lee Preaching Award, the first ever freshman to have received this honor. He was also selected for Theta Alpha Kappa, National Honor Society for Religious Studies/Theology, 2001, as well as Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities & Colleges, 2003.

In the summer of 2003, he graduated with a B.A. and soon thereafter began serving as the College and Career Minister at East Memorial Baptist Church in Prattville, Alabama. While serving there, the Lord brought to Thad a young lady to be his partner in life and ministry. A native of Prattville, Kimberly Littlejohn and Thad would become united in marriage. Sensing the Lord’s urging to move forward in his ministry, on October 1, 2005, Thad accepted the position of Interim Pastor/Teacher of Morningview Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama where he preached for the next ten months.

Since the beginning of his ministry Thad had been desirous of planting a church. Late in 2004, he and Kimberly came very close to planting a congregation in Baton Rouge, LA, but after much prayer, they believed the Lord leading them to plant elsewhere. While at Morningview Baptist as the Interim Pastor, Thad began discussing the prospects of planting a church with the leaders of the Shelby County Baptist Association. After much prayer and with the Lord’s leading, Thad and Kimberly moved forward in planting a church in cooperation with the Shelby County Baptist Association in the Inverness/Greystone area of Birmingham. Thus, Christ Community Baptist Church was birthed and met for its first meeting on June 18, 2006 in Thad and Kimberly’s home. His ministry at Christ Community is characterized by shepherding the flock of Christ Community through expositional preaching. To learn more about Thad and his ministry click here.
